Palin Is A Threat!

There is a lot of talk about Gov. Sarah Palin being very inexperienced and Quayle-like. Well I'm here to tell you that she is a major threat for our victory in November. Why? Let's go back to the 2000 Senate race between then First Lady Hillary Clinton and Rep. Rick Lazio. During one of the debates Lazio went on the attack against Hillary and played very rough. What was the effect of the debate? Well the public saw Lazio as too hard on Hillary and was painted as a bully.

Then their is that memorable debate between Hillary and Obama and Edwards after Iowa and before New Hampshire. Obama and Edwards ganged up on Hillary and kept attacking her. What was the affect? After being down by double digits in every single poll Hillary ended up winning New Hampshire by five points. Why? Because women stood behind her and said the media and Obama/Edwards were unfair.

My conclusion is that Joe Biden who is a GREAT debater can no longer go on the attack like we wanted him to. If he did then he would be painted as too tough on women and as a result undecided women might rally behind Palin. I once thought that this election was going to be a FDR like landslide for us, but as each day passes it looks like that scenario is sleeping away.

Give the Obama team some credit. They will know how to do this. One way is for Hillary and other female Dems to go after Palin. There's plenty to go after her for. And Biden will know how to handle her without appearing to be bullying. He could just answer questions very intelligently and let her show her own lack of knowledge, which she will.

You forget. All she has to do is learn a few stupid talking points, and wave the flag.

It worked for Bush.

In all honesty... (none / 0)

...I don't think Bush could have beaten Obama and his campaign. Probably not in 2000, and certainly not in 2004. This campaign is smart, savvy, and strategic, and I have little doubt that they've had a plan for dealing with Palin for a while now. Axelrod and Plouffe are nothing if not strategic thinkers.

To be honest, I think we give Bush too much credit as a campaigner. He lost his first presidential election, and just barely squeaked by in his second.

Had Al Gore been a little more forceful on the stump, and combatted the lies about him a little more quickly, we'd be nominating someone else - maybe Obama, but maybe Clinton or Edwards or someone we can't even think of right now - to succeed him after two successful terms.

Had John Kerry ignored Bob Shrum and come out swinging like he did the other night, this past week would have been a celebration of Kerry/Edwards's renomination for a second term, with the setup for the great Obama/Edwards/Clinton confrontation in 2012 when Kerry's second term was up.

The Obama campaign has been nothing if not forceful in combatting Bush/McCain/Rove politics - both by smacking down lies about him quickly (witness the 40-page evisceration of the Corsi book, which Kerry and Gore would have ignored) and by shifting the ground of the debate. I think Palin is a defensive move, and really represented the only way McCain could win; Romney and Pawlenty would have guaranteed a McCain loss in November. With Palin, he has more of a chance.

I don't think that VP debates have all that much effect on the elections. Even so, I'm sure that Biden can win a civil debate. The key to victory is to hammer McCain every single day until the election.

Palin, whose work experience is as a sports reporter, is just what we need to meet our greatest foreign challenge: better Olympic coverage.

What a difference a letter makes.

I think Palin will be an embarrassment. She's there to pander to the right wing, which will NOT play well. Her only benefit to the ticket (aside from being a pretty face) is that she's from an oil state in a time of high fuel prices.
