IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT

July 5th First Read NBC's Chuck Todd and Mark Murray:

-- Blame Canada: For the most part, the NYT has been tougher on Clinton's opponents than Clinton (at least in our humble opinion). However, the only paper to hint at the former president's rumored association with someone in Canada has been the Times. They did it directly last year when they did a story on how often the two Clintons spend weekends together. NYT for pay: http://select.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.h tml?res=F50E11FB3B5A0C708EDDAC0894DE4044 82A

A controversial piece, to say the least.

Well, the Times did it again, more subtlely when it included this in its write-up of the Clintons in Iowa. "While the couple drew cheers from hundreds at the parade -- homemade 'Hillary 2008' signs adorned front porches and one woman thanked Mr. Clinton for 'saving Africa' -- a couple of men booed Mr. Clinton along the way. 'Go back to Canada!' another man shouted at him -- eight times. Mr. Clinton walked on."  Wonder how many calls the Times has gotten from Clinton folks on this one?

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/

Canada???? WTF?

Mr. Clinton's presence was mostly but not universally welcomed here.  -- a couple of men booed Mr. Clinton along the way. "Go back to Canada!" another man shouted at him -- eight times. Mr. Clinton walked on.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/05/us/pol itics/05clinton.html?_r=2&ref=politi cs&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

After a bit of searching but refusing to pay the NYT fee this is what they are talking about:

Bill Clinton Spotted with Billionaire Blonde
April 21, 2005

She's been spotted all over town with former president Bill Clinton: a blonde bombshell, who resembles Hillary. Wednesday night, the mystery blonde was by Clinton's side once again at a New York BLT restaurant with Jack Nicholson and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

Be sure to catch Thursday's "Extra" to see the pictures of Bill and Belinda that have everybody talking.

So who is the mystery woman? And what's she really doing with the former president? Only "Extra" has the answers.

New York Daily News columnist Ben Widdicombe told us the woman, Belinda Stronach, is a billionaire member of Canada's Conservative Party, and she's very possibly a future candidate for prime minister of Canada.

"She's blonde, she's ambitious and she's in politics, but she's not Bill Clinton's wife," Widdicombe said. "It's Belinda Stronach, his friend from Canada who's been visiting Bill in New York this week."

"She gives money to his pet projects and in return, he supports her projects, for instance, a children's hospital in Canada," Widdicombe revealed.

Stronach and her father donated money to Clinton's presidential library, and she nearly became an investor in his friend, JFK Jr.'s, George magazine, meeting with him just a week before his death.

And Belinda is no stranger to the limelight either. She's divorced from Olympic champion speed skater Johan Olaf Lass and currently has romantic ties to another politician: Canadian Brian MacKay. Still, there have been rumors of a romance between Belinda and Bill since they met five years ago at a charity event.

"Anytime Bill Clinton is seen with a beautiful blonde, there's going to be rumors," Widdicombe insisted. "But in this case, they really are just friends."

And there's more good news for Bill watchers too: his good behavior is carrying over to his diet. While Jack, Jerry and the rest of the party dined on steak at BLT Wednesday night, Bill feasted on a healthier meal of swordfish and white asparagus.

That is just looney.  Go back to Canada?  WTF?

If you have proof of something Obamamanaics then spell it out.  But don't rehash year old B.S.

Sheesh.  Sad when people who supposedly back the Democratic Party use righwing attacks because their guy is trailing.

Some Obama supporters are so over the top I really fear what they will do come Feb. '08.  I worry they will do harm to themselves.

The guy in the parade was probably a troll.  But that's the point.  There are going to be a lot of parades and a lot of trolls.  The GOP will cloak their whole campaign around Bill Clinton's past.  Tony Snow is already doing it this week from the WH.  This stuff isn't going to go away.  It's not just me who is turned off by his escapades--

Yeah Hillary is already defined and she is still competitive and in some cases leading all gop candidates nationally. So ireally don't see what you are scared of.I look at this in terms of the electoral college,we still have red states, blue states and purple right. So i go straight to the purple and determine who is doing well there.Thats how i look at who might be able to win there and Hillary is in a good position. This is becos she is not gonna lose any blue state kerry carried. The purple states like florida, ohio, pennyslvania and midwest states she is doing the best out of our candidates. So this electability issue is b.s.Just wait and see how they will define Obama and Edwards when they are the candidates.By the time elections roll by,obama unfavourables will be in the low 50's

I have known about this for a while, it has been in the press, on the low.  Even Chris Matthews, for whatever it is worth, has questioned the validity of their marriage.  It is known, documented that they are more apart than together.  So, what does it mean?  Nothing.  It is none of our business.  If this is how they want to live their lives, to stay together, then so be it.  It is nothing, unless it becomes a bombshell, a story that you can not turn your head away from.  Bill Clinton is a womanizer, period.  But I am not married to him and that Hillary's problem.  Not yours, mine's or OURS.  Let this go.  And for the record, stop throwing Obama supporters in the same dirty water.  You can easily be crowned a "Hillary-bot", which is a very horrible term.  A few "bad" apples, do not spoil the whole sack.

He infuriates me sometimes but generally I like his show because of top rate guests and because he asks harder questions than most DC journos would dare ask and doesn't stop asking even if the guest doesn't want to answer.

That being said Chris is sometimes 180 degrees off the mark.  If you listened to him a couple yrs back you'd have sworn that Auh-nuld would be crowned king of California because he was just such a swell guy.  That didn't happen.

If you listened to Chris you'd have sworn that Rudy would have walked in the Republican nomination and promptly wrapped it up as the rightwing threw aside their differences and worshipped him as the very electable Mr. 9/11 Mayor.  That isn't happening.

You'd also have sworn that Hillary was going to fall on her face once the media spotlight of the campaign hit her and the debates started.  She would prove cold, uncomfortable, etc. etc.  The opposite has happened.

Chris is totally focused on the Clinton's marriage, however, I don't think most voters are (well okay maybe wingnuts are).

When you are running for president everything is fair game.  That's why politicians are vetted so carefully.  But Bill Clinton was just so good a politician that we dems have given him a pass all these years.

And we paid for it mightily.

This is what we have to look forward to in 2008.  More of the same. We will see these woman paraded in front of us for months (maybe years).

A Plea for Sanity (none / 0)

I have no problem at all with there being a majority of Edwards and Obama supporters here. I think that the majority of us who complain about posts such as this do so because of the demeaning, disrespectful and hateful manner in which these ideas are presented.

I don't have a problem with whom anyone supports to be the Democratic nominee. I might have a few issues with Gravel supporters but whatever. I am a Democrat and a very partisan one. My issue is with this neocon attack strategy that people supposedly in the same political party are using toward Hillary. It isn't fair and it isn't wise.

Almost every single attack on Hillary here is directly out of the neocon vast right wing conspiracy play book. This shit has Newt Gingrich/Tom DeLay/Rush Limbaugh/Ann Coulter/Sean Hannity/Karl Rove/Dick Cheney written all over it. I mean this shit really stinks. And it ain't stinkin to high heaven if you get my drift.

My advice to fellow Democrats is that you should support your candidate without telling lies about the ones you don't support. I belong to the Democratic Party. We aren't a bunch of frickin neocons. We have respect for human decency. And we don't resort to the tactics of our enemies to attack our friends. We can fight this out because we must. But we will fight fair.

Hey plus the man shouting Go back to Canada must have thought Bill was someone else he knew from Canada.Remember someone was making a case out of someone mistaken Bill for Bob Barker on this site.So we might just accept that there were some drunks in that crowd.

National Enquirer. (none / 0)

Actually, I believe 'National Enquirer' also carried that story long time ago.

Put this nutty diary aside, belinda was a 'rising political star' in Canada, but she decided to give up on politics recently and returns to her father's business.

She was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
http://www.therecord.com/home_page_front _story/home_page_front_story_1081405.htm l

Her father is a big Clinton fan and they have donated lots of money to Clinton foundation to battle ads and other global issues. That's why Clinton has very close relationship with both of them.

Ms. Belinda was dating with the now foreign minister at that time.

This hit piece is extremely silly.

Right. That's why NBC and the New York Times are reporting on it. It is because they heard about in the Enquirer. Of course.  Right. Sure.

This diary is trash (none / 0)

And the commentary is trash.

No one is going to withhold their from Hillary Clinton
over rumors about Bill Clinton's sex life.

Please delete this.

Re: This diary is trash (none / 0)

No. It is not trash. This guy has girlfriends going back 30+ years.

This isn't about lies and innuendo. The research has been done.  The names, the places, the photos are all out there.  It is going to keep coming up over and over again. It is a political reality.

Re: This diary is trash (none / 0)

This isn't about...innuendo.

But that's all your diary is -- innuendo -- and the resulting tabloid commentary is
exactly what I would expect such a diary to produce.

If you want to have a serious conversation about Bill Clinton's philandering as a
liability for a Hillary Clinton general election campaign and a potential distraction
for a Hillary Clinton presidency, this is not the way to go about it.

Re: This diary is trash (none / 0)

I respect your opinion. But I don't think you can have a serious conversation about Bill Clinton's philandering. That is why nobody does it. The dems seem to think if we just don't talk about it then maybe it will go away.  Everybody is embarrassed.

Frankly Bill Clinton is Hillary's weakest link.  He may have been a good president but he has never been a good husband.

"Go Back to Canada" comment random (3.00 / 3)

Nothing to do with the canadian lady rumors. It is a common insult by self righteous conservatives whenever they see someone they percieve as the "Canada fleeing 60s leftist" because of the draft.

We have had enough. No more stinking sex scandals. (none / 0)

Uhhh. So why are you posting tabloid innuendo and trash like this? You don't see normal people posting unsupported rumors about people's sex lives.

Or, you could look at it logically. If a guy were having an affair, do you think he'd take the woman to dinner at a high visibility NY restaurant and sit with Jack Nicholson and Jerry Bruckheimer?

Re: We have had enough. No more stinking sex scand (none / 0)

It is a bit hypocritical I admit.  But if we don't have this conversation now before we pick a nominee, then we are going to be stuck listening to this crap for years.

Re: hey you are so scared of the (none / 0)

The only real scandal, despite the neocon talking points, was the Monica thing. He lied about getting a blow job. Period. How Utterly Scandalous!

All the rest of the so-called scandals were a bunch of nonsense, including one where the Clinton's were accused of murdering a friend of theirs. So take your scandal ridden fiasco bullshit to Fox News or some other neocon place where you can feel right at home.

The neocons won't be able to use this shit against any of our candidates if we don't let them. Let's start by not letting them do it here.

Re: We have had enough. No more stinking sex scand (none / 0)

Chuck Todd?  The same guy who predicted that Bush's approval ratings would be over 50% by now if Pelosi became Speaker of the House?

I guess I'm not surprised that this guy doesn't understand that "Go back to Canada!" is a taunt aimed at draft dodgers.  He seems completely clueless.

Awesome diary, by the way.  This is truly how a great country should choose its leaders.

Nah, Steve.  We NEED to have this tabloid discussion.   :-)

Look at it this way:  Some can be REALLY disappointed/disgusted and some can just state that THEY don't really care, but that the right-wing is going to "run with it."   Win-win all around.

Re: We have had enough. No more stinking sex scand (none / 0)

I think there are a number of honestly well-intentioned people who dread a Hillary run because they figure, like it or not, the media will make it a soap opera all over again.  They may be right in terms of what will happen, but it feels like surrender to choose your candidate based upon concerns like that.  However, I don't think everyone who brings this issue up is necessarily a Hillary-hating concern troll.

What I find ironic is that the netroots are full of people who are like "oh no, we can't run Hillary, the media will be so mean to her" - but a lot of these same people hope Al Gore gets in the race.  As though the media would treat him any better than the Clintons.

Re: We have had enough. (none / 0)

Of course the diary is trash, it is a trashy subject which will eventually be brought up in a trashy election. The question for us Democrats is do we discuss this reasonably, before it is too late? This trash is reasonable because Bill's actions in the past have made it so.  Their marriage is the subject for a reasonable discussion because Hillary's actions, or non-actions, in regards to his past public affairs is a largely responsible  for her widespread unfavorables.  At some point, Hillary supporters are going to have to face it's a ticking time bomb, a tremendously unfair one for her, but like her response to the Lewinsky affair it was damned if you do, damned if you don't. The next time it will be double damned if you do, double damned if you don't.

You're not going to defeat Hillary this way- don't you know that?  You only make whoever you like look really bad.  You are the last person I would want as a supporter- but you go ahead and spread your poison- because it's only ending up in your own backyard.

Everyone Knows (none / 0)

This is not News. Everyone knows that Bill Clinton is still is addicted to sex and that he never stopped cheating. There are photos out of him kissing some lady at an event. He was even parked outside of Belinda's house one night and spent the whole evening there. This is not News.

What is News is that Hil Bots think Bill Clinton did an about face after he got caught with Monica Lewinsky.

That's "Breaking"
